January was our last month in North America and saw our arrival in New Zealand.  There was a little running around with a business meeting in Texas, wine work in California, and I was able to squeeze in one last visit with Oma.  This was especially precious for me.  At the age of 101, Oma …

They say cruising is merely boat maintenance in exotic locations.  There is definitely some truth to that.  I’ve wallowed away many a beautiful evening at anchorage contorted into an advanced level yoga pose to reach the back of a loose connection.  The girls are now helping with this as well, while I become less pliable …

I LOVE spending the holidays with family and friends and we have been so fortunate this year to have been able to spend so much time with both.  The girls had lots of fun with their “old” friends and spent a good amount of time with their cousins as well!  We finished out 2019 with …

Turns out all of our solar panels are blown, the charger needed replacing (or did it...), our engine starter battery is done, the dinghy is in need of some patching and there are about 50 other little things that need doing .

I LOVE spending the holidays with family and friends and we have been so fortunate this year to have been able to spend so much time with both.  The girls had lots of fun with their "old" friends and spent a good amount of time with their cousins as well!  We finished out 2019 with a warm glow in our hearts stoked by time with loved ones.

We were recently honored to be interviewed by Benjamin Shaw of Out the Gate Sailing.  Ben has a great podcast about sailing on the bay that we’ve listened to for a while.  He interviews all sorts of people who have connections to San Francisco Bay sailing.  We had a lovely sit down with him at …

Back in November of 2018 when we were pulling into New Zealand after an amazing six months exploring Oceana, Cameron and I were called back to Canada to a client.  We didn’t know when that work would wrap up.  We also knew that we wanted to be in France for the D-Day celebrations with our …

Karen and Anne sing Karen's song "Highlands" song up in Tryon meadow at the base of Folger Mountain. This is a song which Karen, with a little help from Isa had written only days before. It captures our love of being up in the sierra at our hideaway in the woods.

October was filled to the brim.  We got lots of horse riding into the books, wine harvesting, fun with friends and family and the girls created and delivered a presentation about their lives as boat kids to a bunch of 5th-grade classes.  We were also able to help evacuate the horses when the Kincade …

We are enjoying being settled into land life. October in Napa provided opportunities for the girls to develop a presentation about their lives for a friend's 5th-grade class. It went over so well they were asked back to all 4 of the other 5th grade classes! They prepared their talk and presented in beautifully! We also got to have more time on horseback as well as lots of great family time and time with wonderful friends.

I am very excited to have finally published our “Hacks” page.  This has been in the works for a while and I’ve been slowly chipping away at it.  I hope that it is very useful for soon-to-be cruisers and long term travelers.  The idea is that it is a little corner of the website where …

Getting back into land life has involved some challenges and also some really lovely benefits.  We’ve been enjoying the ability to reconnect with friends, to ride horses and to get some work done.

This may be my favorite “One Moment a Day” video we’ve done. That is due to my sister Karen, her songwriting skills, and the joy we find in singing and harmonizing together. She wrote this very sweet song while we were up at 8,000 feet enjoying campfires, fishing and watching our children enjoy a place …

This may be my favorite "1 moment a day" video we've done. That is due to my sister Karen, her songwriting skills, and the joy we find in singing and harmonizing together. She wrote this very sweet song while we were up at 8,000 feet enjoying campfires, fishing and watching our children enjoy a place that we enjoyed when we were little like they are now. We found the time to sit back and be inspired by the beauty and joy of this place. Well, I may have been making sandwiches while practicing the harmonies, but it all whirls together into a magical end of summertime moment which I will probably look back on as the best times in our lives. The month was filled with two trips to our favorite spot in the woods, the first with our dear family friends the Suhrs.  After a bit of time in Napa we headed up again with my sister after which we made a whirlwind work and play trip to Aspen Colorado.  These days we are settling in for two whole months in just one place!  We are excited not to be moving and thrilled to be close to friends and family if just for a little bit.

I think we have all heard about this world of house swapping or house sitting, but without a bit of research and a certain level of comfort around the idea, it’s hard to embrace.  Cameron remembers the days when it was a monthly subscription newsletter delivered via snail mail.  Thankfully the internet has made it …

We were off the grid for most of July.  The girls had their first backpacking trip for 5 days in the Trinity Alps with our dear friends the Parrys.  We all loved it and the girls attacked each day’s hike with great attitudes and spirit.  We did 20 miles!  It was a perfect pace for …

The theme for July was backpacking in the Trinity Alps with friends, then camping in the Sierra and seeing lots of family and friends in between times. California, we love you.
