We arrived by sea but the mountains are calling. We're exploring deep into Rarotonga and it takes scaling a few ropes and rocks to get there.

Today we’re climbing one of the tallest mountains on the island for an epic view and we get sucked down the rabbit hole on the legendary Mt. Raemaru. Join our Sailing Crew: http://bit.ly/join-gwtw ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seriously, the people we’ve met on Rarotonga have been amazing. One day I ran out of cash at a cafe and the lady behind the counter loaned me her scooter to go to the ATM. That would never happen in the USA. Then we met Dion & Marcelle. They made it their personal mission to make sure we had a killer time on their island. After a full tour of Raro, Marcelle took us to her favorite cafe for coffee and brunch then she gave us her car!!! Yea. Crazy right?!? First big adventure she told us to: Hike the legendary Raemaru trek up the mountain. The most famous mountain in all of the Cook Islands. It’s the first real trail we’ve seen since Mt. Quilotoa in Ecuador (watch it here: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/epic-volcano-hiking-ecuador), and it’s definitely the most interactive trail we’ve ever hiked. From the QR code signs, to the hunt for red passion fruit and guava, and the rope assisted vertical ascent to the top…this hike is LEGIT! Beautiful weather, stunning scenery and some 📷 If you’re wondering how we got those crazy vids from the top of the mountain, make sure you check out our top camera gear on our website. If we hiked with a proper tripod, or if it wasn’t so windy, the footage would have been super stable…we just didn’t prepare for that much wind at the top. Oh, and that bash between my camera and the tree…it’s not the first time that poor Sony has been beaten up on a hike. I can’t believe that thing still works. 🎥 Check out all our cameras used in this video on the blog post: https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/exploring-rarotonga Shared with LOVE 💕 from all of us here aboard s/v Curiosity, - Jason, Nikki, Cleo and Singa 😻 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🎶 AWESOME tunes for vids: http://bit.ly/artlist-gwtw - Artists: Giants and Pilgrims (intro), Russo and Weinberg, Rex Banner & Assaf Ayalon ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy our vids? nikki wynn on traditional polynesian navigating sailboat in cook islands

Little did we know, we were about to get an intimate introduction to not only the Cook Islands, but also to the not-so-lost art of Polynesian Sailing.

We sailed to Rarotonga & our first few days are MAGIC. A traditional Vaka arrives from NZ along with a crazy crew. Toss in some sexy Polynesian dancing along with a dash of social drinking, a Boat Tour, the HAKA and it’s a trip we won’t forget. Want to volunteer on a Traditional Polynesian Sailing Vaka? Or learn more about our first few days in Rarotonga, Cook Islands? Click over to our website: https://gonewiththewynns.com/art-of-polynesian-navigation After getting a sneak peek sailboat tour of the Cook Island Vaka, Nikki is hooked! Now she's ready to crew on a traditional Polynesian catamaran. Celestial navigation, hand steering with a massive rudder, tiny kitchen cooking, pooping over the rails and 16 bunks in a hull...Nikki is definitely the more hardcore sailor between the two of us. Now she's added it to the bucket list, so one day it'll happen with or without me! Are you a Skip-Ahead-er? jason wynn working on sailboat engine

There’s nothing like a rough anchorage to move a sailor along.

Our beautiful paradise has turned on us and the weather predictions aren’t looking pretty for the days ahead.  So, we wipe the sand from our weary eyes and prepare to move from one tiny spec of land to another.

Tikehau to Rangiroa is only 45 nautical miles away. But, as the title gives away, our seemingly simple day of sailing doesn’t go as planned.
